Exercise:1

VOCABULARY & EXPRESSIONS

Go over the following vocabulary and expressions with your tutor. Read the word/expression and definition out loud, and your tutor will go over anything you do not understand. Practice creating a sentence or two to make sure you know how to use the word/expression properly.


Vocabulary/ Expressions

Once in awhile: Phrase

from time to time; occasionally. 

Once in awhile I like to take time out of my busy schedule to go for a walk in the park. 

hang out: phrasal verb 

spend time relaxing or enjoying oneself.

My friends and I always hang out at the mall together in our free time.

find time to: Verb Phrase

To devote time in one's busy schedule to do something; to make the time to do something.

Sometimes I find it hard to find time to go shopping, so I regularly shop online.

catch up with: phrasal verb  

do tasks which one should have done earlier.

He normally uses the afternoons to catch up with paperwork.

get done with: Phrase

to have finished dealing with something, so that you do not have to think about it anymore

I need to get done with my daily tasks in order to cross them off of my schedule. 

On a regular basisPhrase

at the same time every day, week, month, etc. : regularly

The sales team meets on a regular basis. 

have no choice but toPhrase

the last thing anyone can do

As the rain was hard, we had no choice but to cancel the plan. 

deal with: phrasal verb 

 deal with something to take action to do something, especially to solve a problem

The government must now deal with the problem of high unemployment 

early riser: Noun

someone who often get up early in the morning

He is an early riser, thus, he can enjoy mornings. 

take time off: phrasal verb 

 be duty-free in a certain period.

If possible, I would take time off to go on holiday.

PART 1 QUESTIONS

Introduction and interview (4-5 minutes) 

Here are possible questions that might come up during the test. Go over them with your tutor.

In the first part, the examiner will ask you a number of general questions

Here are possible questions that might come up during the test. Go over them with your tutor.

You will have 1 minute to prepare to speak, and then you will talk for 2 minutes, during which the examiner will not speak.

Describe a time of day you enjoy.

You should say:

  • And explain why you like this time of day.

Describe an occasion when you got up very early.

  • And explain how you felt about getting up early.

PART 3 QUESTIONS

Two-way discussion (4-5 minutes) 

Here are possible questions that might come up during the test. Go over them with your tutor.

 In the last part, you will talk with the examiner about issues related to the topic on the card.

What are some  advantages of using time management apps to  plan your time?

Do you think people need to have a day-to-day plan? 

Do you think people can still do their tasks efficiently  if they don’t plan them?

Do you think it is possible to learn how to manage your time from technology?

What are some possible advantages of taking a management course?

WRAP-UP

Go over any new expressions or vocabulary that you learned today.
