IELTS Speaking Practice Test 1

Lesson Structure

  • The IELTS Speaking test usually takes between 11-14 minutes.
  • In this lesson, your tutor will act as an IELTS examiner and will ask you questions based on the IELTS Speaking test.
  • At the end, your tutor will give you some feedback.

Exercise 1

Part 1

Answer these questions based on Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test. This part of the test usually takes 4-5 minutes.


Let's talk about what you do.

1.Do you work or are you a student?

2.Why did you choose this job or course?

3.What do you like about it?


Let's talk about food.

4.What is your favorite food? Why?

5.What foods do you dislike?

6.Do you generally have a healthy diet?


Let's talk about visiting relatives.

7.What do you usually do when you visit relatives?

8.When was the last time you visited a relative?

9.What friends or relatives do you enjoy visiting the most? Why?

Exercise 2

Part 2

Complete this task based on Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking test. You have 1 minute to prepare your response and up to 2 minutes to speak. Your tutor will stop you when the time is up.

Describe the place where you live.

You should say:

  • how long you have been living there
  • what it is like
  • what the best thing about it is

And describe anything you don't like about it.

Exercise 3

Part 3

Answer these questions based on Part 3 of the IELTS Speaking test. Your tutor will stop asking questions after 5 minutes.

1.What would you say are the biggest problems facing your hometown?

2.Do you think it's better to live and work in the place you were born or move away?

3.In your opinion, what makes a town or city a good place to live?

4.How has your hometown changed over your lifetime?

Your tutor will give you some feedback on each part of the test.
