DIALOGUE

In this lesson, your tutor will help you go over this topic: photography. First, read the following dialogue out loud with your tutor, then switch roles and try again. 

Devin and Emily are talking about photography.

Devin:  Emily, do you like photography?

Emily Yes, it’s one of my favorite hobbies.

Devin:  Mine too! Do you like to take pictures of beautiful landscapes?

Emily: Yes! I really like to take panoramic photos of nature.

Devin:  Awesome! Do you like to make photo albums?

Emily:  Yes, I do! It’s a great way to save memories.

Devin:  Are you camera-shy?

Emily:  Not really, but when someone is taking a close up I can be a little.

Devin:  I agree. Do you like to look at photos of animals?

Emily:  Yes, I think animals are cute.

VOCABULARY

Go over the following vocabulary and expressions with your tutor. Read the word/expression and definition out loud, and your tutor will go over anything you do not understand. Practice creating a sentence or two to make sure you know how to use the word/expression properly.

(v + n) to use a camera to capture photos

landscapes

(n – plural) the visible features of land or countryside
They like the beautiful landscapes of the mountains.

panoramic

(adj) a wide view of an area
The panoramic view of the city is interesting.

nature

(n) the features in the world like rocks, animals, landscapes, trees, plants
I love nature because it’s peaceful.

photo albums

(n – plural) a collection of photos usually in a book or electronic form
She likes to make photo albums of her family.

memories

(n – plural) something remembered from the past.
We have lots of memories of our wedding day.

camera-shy

(adj) dislike or fear of having your photo taken
Her brother is camera-shy.

close up

(n) a photo taken very near to a person or something
She wants to take a close up of her boyfriend.

to look at

(phrasal v) the act of directing the eyes towards something
He likes to look at the people walking in the streets.

Use the following questions as a guideline to form an interesting conversation with your tutor. Feel free to diverge from these suggestions if anything interesting comes up.
