Exercise 2

Dialogue Practice

Read the dialogue aloud with your teacher.

It's Camille's first day at work. Mr. Smith welcomes her to the company.

Mark Smith

Camille! Welcome aboard! How are you? Did you get here all right?

Camille

Yes, great, thank you! I'm just really excited and can't wait to meet everyone.

Mark Smith

Well, I'm glad to hear that. But first, let me show you around and to your office.

Camille

I have an office?

Mark Smith

Of course you do! You are the Project Manager. Okay, here we are.

Camille

So, this is my space. I like it!

Mark Smith

Yes, this will be your home away from home. So, feel free to organize this space in any way you want.

Camille

Great, thank you! I think I'm going to enjoy working here.

Mark Smith

You will have six people working under you. After lunch, I will introduce you to your subordinates and to everyone you will work closely with.

Camille

That sounds good. Where do you usually have lunch?

Mark Smith

There's a cafeteria on the second floor. The food is quite good there. But you can also bring your own food and eat in the dining area.

Camille

That's good to know.

Mark Smith

Now, here's your schedule. We have a regular meeting every Tuesday. The other four meetings in your schedule are the monthly meetings with the managers. Other than that, you are free to organize your time and your tasks in any way you like, as long as you are efficient and bring good results.

Camille

I'm quite good at time management, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Mark Smith

That's great to hear. Okay, I'll leave you alone now, so you can settle in. Please feel free to ask me if you need anything. You know where to find me.

Camille

Thank you, sir! And thank you for taking the time to show me everything, I appreciate it!
