Exercise 2

Dialogue Practice

Read the dialogue aloud with your teacher.

James just got a promotion, so he invites his co-worker to go out for some drinks.

James

Hey Zach, are you doing anything after work?

Zach

Not really. I'm just going to walk home and watch a movie or something.

James

Perfect! What do you say we go out for some drinks instead? I'm buying. I finally got that promotion I’ve been waiting for.

Zach

Nice! Congratulations, man! It was about time. Now, that's something to drink for.

James

It sure is! How about we go to that pub around the corner?

Zach

Sounds good!

Several hours later, Zach and James are in the pub. They see their co-worker, Jessica, in front of the pub.

James

Hey, Jessica! Come on in! Why don't you join us for a drink? It’s my treat.

Jessica

Are you guys celebrating something?

James

As a matter of fact, we are. I got promoted! Come on, what are you drinking?

Jessica

Wow, congratulations, James! Okay, I could have one beer, I guess.

James

Waiter, one beer, please! Put it on my tab. And another round for the two of us.

A couple of hours later.

Zach

It's getting late. We should probably get going.

James

Yeah, you're right. I'll just go foot the bill.

Zach

No, I can't let you pay the whole bill, let's go Dutch.

James

No way, it's on me. When you get promoted, you'll pay.

Zach

Okay, it's a deal!
